S.C. State Guard
South Carolina State Guard
South Carolina Military Department
The SCSG acts in a support role for the National Guard, law enforcement and other state, county and municipal agencies during times of emergency. The State Guard is managed by the South Carolina Military Department under the direction of the Adjutant General. Its Commander in Chief is the governor of the State of South Carolina.
2ND Highlands Brigade
Highlands Brigade is commanded by
BG James Burt
The S.C. State Guard's 2ND Brigade serves several counties in the upstate of South Carolina - and provides assistance when requested to all counties statewide - fulfilling the State Guard’s mission of acting as early responders by providing immediate boots on the ground with ability to sustain operations for 48 hours.
The 2ND Brigade also actively supports various government agencies and non-profit organizations throughout the Palmetto State.
The 2ND Brigade is one of three brigades in the State Guard (1ST Brigade is in the Midlands, 3rd Brigade is in the lowcountry) which contributes thousands of hours annually, preparing for - and responding to when necessary - natural or man-made disasters, and generally lending a helping hand when it is needed.
Our members are South Carolinians with a passion for service and an equally strong commitment to their fellow South Carolinians.
We're looking for a "few good" volunteer men and women with a desire to serve in a state military organization with one of the richest traditions and lineages in the nation.
