  • Yes. The South Carolina State Guard is a Title 25 Military Command under the authority of the South Carolina Military Department and is one of three military commands lead by The Adjutant General. The Commander-In-Chief of the South Carolina State Guard is The Governor of South Carolina.

  • Yes. Soldiers in the South Carolina State Guard are paid $150 per month for eight hours of drill. If activated by the Governor for any reason, soldiers placed on active orders is paid $150 per day for the duration of their deployment.

  • Citizens ages 17–70 that have a high school diploma or GED and meet the other qualifications for service in the South Carolina State Guard are encouraged to apply for enlistment.   • The South Carolina State Guard follows U.S. Army grooming standards AR 670-1 for soldiers in uniform. Only hair above the lip is authorized. Religious waivers may be requested in writing, but must be approved in advance prior to FMRC training.

  • Tattoos are allowed as long as they are not considered offensive, racist or carry violent messaging. Neck and hand tattoos are subject to review before joining, and if allowed must be covered while in uniform.

  • The average time to complete the application and acceptance process is approximately one to two months, as well as available access into the next FMRC class.
